Purchase of a vehicle for medical purposes
Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing (Manila, Philippines)
Project 3537: Purchase of a vehicle for medical purposes
The Congregation of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing was founded in Germany in 1885. The first foundation in Africa was established in 1888, followed in 1903 by a foundation in Brazil and then in 1906 in Manila. Today, the sisters have houses on four continents (Europe, Africa, America and Asia), in sixteen countries, with twelve priories and one hundred and twenty-eight missions.
St Scholastica Priory was the first foundation in the Philippines in 1906. There are around 170 sisters in 19 communities. In the predominantly Catholic islands, the sisters have mainly set up schools ranging from nursery to secondary school, as well as a music conservatory in Manila. Today, thousands of students attend their courses in 25 establishments. The sisters also run hospitals and retirement homes. The Filipino sisters are currently stationed in almost every priory in the world, thanks to the large number of vocations in this predominantly Catholic country.
Concern for the poor and better education for rural populations is particularly dear to the sisters. They offer courses for more profitable production in local agriculture, care about women's education, run a health program and promote guaranteed income projects for poor families, such as the manufacture of school uniforms, craft uniforms etc. The sisters also run a large hospital in the poor region of Pambujan.
Request
Many poor people do not have the means to care for themselves, so the sisters have developed a project to directly help people by setting up medical missions. A vehicle is used to transport doctors, nurses and medical equipment so that as many people as possible can have access to care and treatment. The current vehicle has become obsolete, and often breaks down. It is urgent to replace it. The new Toyota vehicle costs 24,000 euros.
Financial assistance requested: 22,000 euros
