Burkina Faso - Monastery of Koubri, OSB

Project 3550: Management and accounting studies

The Koubri monastery was founded by the Toumliline monastery (French foundation, Morocco) in 1963. The community comprises around twenty monks of three nationalities: Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad.

The monks farm citrus fruits and raise livestock. They are also involved in the economic and social development of the region. Since their arrival, the community has built 120 dams, enabling the local population to develop farms, fields, gardens and orchards. A primary school has been built near the monastery, and a secondary school and administrative building are nearing completion.

Request

Brother Patrice is in the first year of a three-year degree course in accounting and management at the Notre-Dame d'Afrique private university (UNDA, Ouagadougou), so that he can then use his skills to manage the community's assets. Financial assistance would be required for registration and accommodation costs.

Financial support requested: 2,465 euros.
