Kappadu (India) [November 2024]

Formation for eight brothers

Project 3631 - Monastery of Kappadu (India)

Formation for eight brothers

The monastery of Kappadu was founded under the Syro-Malabar rite by three monks from the Benedictine monastery of Asirvanam (Bangalore). The community moved to Kappadu in 1987. It has five other smaller houses, which are considered to be formation houses. Each house has two or three monks looking after a group of candidates. This project was launched to facilitate the training of candidates, who are often very young (the postulancy lasts three years); to strengthen financial viability: given that agriculture is the main source of income, small communities with enough land and well cultivated are more likely to be financially self-sufficient; to spread the Benedictine way of life to other dioceses in Kerala.

The community has fifty-five members, including four novices and seven young people in temporary vows.

Project

Eight brothers are studying theology at St Peter's Pontifical Seminary and St Joseph's Seminary in Kerala. Financial assistance is needed for enrolment fees and travel expenses.

Requested amount: 9,600 euros.
