Calapan (Philippines)

Purchase of a minibus

Monastery of San Rafael Heights

(Calapan City - Philippines)

Project 3468 – Purchase of a minibus

The monastery of Calapan was founded by the community of Vigan in 1990 and raised to the rank of abbey in 2018. It is part of the young congregation of the Benedictine nuns of Eucharistic King (BNEK).

There are currently twenty-one sisters, five of whom are aged between 80 and 90. Their livelihood is assured by the guest house (group or individual retreats), the shop and their production of altar bread.

The sisters live a life centred on prayer and work; they provide financial support for a few student bursaries and help for some of the poor people living nearby.

Request

The community has a second-hand L300 minibus donated by a benefactor. This car is used for all the sisters’ outings: shopping, product deliveries, religious meetings, but also to take elderly sisters to hospital or other medical facilities. Despite being well-maintained, the car was breaking down more and more often, at any time and in any place, causing the sisters major problems. Repairs were becoming more and more expensive. The sisters want to replace the old car with a new minibus.

Requested amount: 17,000 euros
