On 12 June 2021, the Abbot of Szczyrzyc Abbey (Poland), Domenico Chucher, having completed his term of office, the community elected Father Szymon Warciak as the new Abbot.

The election was presided over by Abbot General Mauro Giuseppe Lepori. Szymon Warciak, 34 years old, was until now prior of the community.

Eleven of the twenty-five monks of Bamenda have tested positive for the virus with varying symptoms. One Brother had to be admitted to the hospital because of congested breathing.
