Benin – Monastery of Hékanmé (OSB)
Project 3225 and Project 3226 - Formation of two Brothers in Philosophy
In 1964 the monastery of Belloc (OSB, France) made a foundation in Benin (at Zagnanado) at the request of the local bishop. This community closed in 1989. Some of the brothers pursued their monastic formation at the Abbey of Koubri (Burkina Faso), then returned to Benin in 1998, where the monastery of Mount Tabor was founded at Hékanmé. At present the community numbers ten brothers, of whom three are in temporary vows.
Poultry farming is the principal source of revenue for the community. The brothers have had a good experience in the cultivation of laying hens. For the last few years they have also begun bee-keeping.
