Sister Maria Rafael was born in 1957 in Chislehurst (England, Great Britain). She entered Tautra in 2013 and made first profession in 2016.

On 21 September the Conventual Priory of Prince of Peace at Tigoni (Kenia) was raised to an Abbey, 42 years after its foundation. On 24 of September the monks elected Fr John Baptist Oese Imai OSB, hitherto Conventual Prior, their first abbot, for a period of 12 years.

Downside Abbey

On 26th August 2020 Fr Nicholas Wetz was elected 13th Abbot of Downside. A day after his election, Abbot Nicholas announced that the Community of St Gregory the Great founded in 1606 in Douai in the Spanish Netherlands had unanimously decided to leave Stratton-on-the-Fosse, their home since 1814. With smaller numbers and changing circumstances, the current monastery buildings are no longer suitable or financially viable.

It is with great joy that the community of Sant’Anselmo joins the monks of St. Martin’s Abbey in Lacey, Washington, USA, to announce the election of their ninth abbot, Abbot Marion Qui-Thac Nguyen. Since 2014, Abbot Marion has been a doctoral student in the Monastic Institute of the Pontifical University of Sant’Anselmo and a resident of the Collegio. osb.org, Lacey

Dom Bernardo Bonowitz, Abbot of Nossa Senhora do Novo Mundo (Diocese São José dos Pinhais, Brazil), for reasons of health gave his resignation from the office of Abbot of Novo Mundo to the Abbot General (Cst 40). The Abbot General with the consent of his Council accepted the resignation which became effective 1 October, 2020.

The Nuns leave the Monastery of Marienlof-Colen

Since 23 September 2019 the monastery of Colen has been affiliated with the monastery of Helfta (Germany), because the community consisted of only three elderly sisters.
The monastery was founded in the 15th century by the Canons Regular of the Holy Cross. 198 years ago, the Cistercian monk Jerome Minsart acquired the monastery and offered it to the Cistercian nuns of Belgium.
