The Holy Father has appointed as bishop-prelate of Trondheim, Norway, the Reverend Fr. Erik Varden, O.C.S.O., currently abbot of Mount Saint Bernard in Leicestershire, England.
Dom Erik Varden, was born on 13 May 1974 in Sarpsborg (Diocese of Oslo, Norway). He entered the Mount Saint Bernard in 2002, was appointed Superior ad nutum in 2013 and elected Abbot in 2015.
Tha Abbot General and his Council, on behalf of the Order, congratulate Dom Erik for his appointment. We assure him of our prayers by assuming the new ministery in favor of the parishioners of the Prelature of Trondheim and the Church of Norway.
Together with the brothers of Mount Saint Bernard, we thank Dom Erik for his ministry as Abbot of the community and his service to the Order. And, although we cannot stop having a sense of loss, we believe that in his “Yes” to the “Holy Will of God”, the Lord will bless not only for Dom Erik and his flock in Norway, but also for Mount Saint Bernard Abbey and the Order. In His will is our peace, joy and true freedom.
