Abbot Primate Gregory Polan OSB attended the 91st Assembly of the Union of Superiors General, held on 21-23 November 2018 at the Pauline conference center Casa Divin Maestro in Arricia, Rome.

monastic superiors USG 2018Also present from the Benedictine Confederation were Abbot General Giuseppe Casetta OSB of the Vallombrosian Congregation, Abbot General Michael Kelly OSB of the Silvestrine Congregation, Abbot President Guillermo Léon Arboleda Tamayo OSB of the Subiaco Cassinese Congregation, Abbot President Elias Lorenzo OSB of the American Cassinese Congregation, and Abbot President Jeremias Schroeder OSB of the Sankt Ottilien Congregation.

The more than 100 participants of this assembly focused primarily on the implementation of the XV Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment, according to the various and diverse charisms of the religious institutes of men and societies of apostolic life in the Church.

During the assembly, the Superiors General also elected a new executive council. Jesuit Father Arturo Sosa SJ was elected as President and Redemptorist Father Michael Brehl CSsR as Vice-President.

The assembly also elected additional members to the executive council, with representation from among the various forms of consecrated life in the Church: canons regular, monastics, mendicants, clerics regular, brothers’ institutes and societies of apostolic life.

Abbot General Mauro Lepori OCist was elected to represent our monastic tradition.
